CHARACTER
Name:
Flynn Scifo
Canon: Tales of Vesperia
Age: 16
Demigod/Hunter/Satyr/Nymph: Reincarnation of Heimdallr
Demigod abilities: He will start with heightened senses. Flynn can see and hear things extremely well, which is why he's survived and protected others for so long on his own. It's hard, if not impossible, to sneak up on him. His other abilities that Heimdallr has are currently locked away.

Flynn also has a natural talent for sword fighting. This is referenced multiple times by Yuri in the game, and he's a hard boss to face against.

Personality: Flynn has a strong sense of justice, and is stubborn when it comes to his duties. He works hard, and usually goes by the book. There are times that he pulls an underhanded trick, yet he only does so if he has no choice in the matter. Flynn knows the law intimately, and his time as a soldier has given him experience in politics. If someone breaks the law, he will make sure that he or she gets the punishment they deserved, even if it was necessary, no matter whom they are or what their status is. He tends to have a harder hand when dealing with Yuri.

He gives respect to people in positions of power, but he isn't afraid of pushing back, regardless of how well off said person is. Unfortunately, Flynn’s nature makes him work so hard that he constantly goes beyond his limits. It takes a person as stubborn as him in order to get him away from his work as Commandant. He has been known to work late into the night, and might accidentally skip meals because of this.

His demeanor changes depending on whom he is interacting with. If Flynn is interacting with Yuri, he tends to have a verbal sparring match with him, usually one laced with sarcasm and wit. He loses a bit of his formality when around his best friend, but only a little bit. Flynn is known to get really angry only with Yuri, and only outwardly shows a fraction of his frustration. Yet, he also shows a fondness for the man, if only when Yuri isn’t around to see it. When he is around others, he is polite and hides any negative emotions he may feel toward a situation that might stomp on a few important toes.

An important aspect of Flynn’s personality is his inability to ignore a person in need. He has to help them; it’s like a compulsion for him. If a crime is being committed, Flynn will stop at nothing to make sure the criminal gets punished for disobeying the law, but only by fair trial. If someone is injured, then he will make sure that they are okay. He cares about people, and wants to make them safe from anything that can cause them harm.

He is a man people can respect and look up to because he acts like how a Knight should. Flynn is honorable and fair, and will not take a life unless he needs to. He’s loyal to his friends, his Emperor, and to his fellow Knights, working to keep them all alive as best as he can. At the same time, he also knows that death is inevitable, especially when one works with the Imperial Knights. Flynn is well aware that anyone can die out in the field, and strives to make sure that the casualties are at a minimum.

However, underneath his ‘knight in shining armor’ personality runs a man who carefully plans his moves, and is very perceptive to the people around him. It’s his goal to change the justice system in the capitol, and it requires him to be careful in how he rises to the top. For the most part, Flynn lets his skill with the sword do the talking when someone questions his skill due to his age, but he also knows that he will need to get in with a few nobles and high-ranking Knights. He’s familiar with politics, deals with it every day, and works tirelessly to bring any deception into light. Flynn isn't perfect; he does make mistakes and he has strayed from his goal once before when he stops questioning his orders from his superiors, something that Yuri helps him get passed. He learns from them and attempts to correct them, but there are times in which he needs to be reminded of the simple fact that nobody is perfect.

Despite working closely with nobles and politicians in general, he still dislikes the arrogant nobles he constantly sees. This is because he is disgusted by their behavior, and feels that the way the nobles in his home treat those with lesser status is unjust. Despite that, he keeps a stiff upper lip to avoid unnecessary conflict and friction between him and them.

AU History: Flynn was an orphan when he was around two or three years old. All he had from his parents was his own full name, and otherwise he had no other information to go off of as to who they were. It was believed that they had been killed, but nobody could give him anything solid. Flynn grew up in an orphanage on the poor side of the city of Zaphias. He learned very quickly that life was hard and nothing was fair, especially not when the law enforcement system was corrupt in their area. If you weren't rich, then the law wasn't so strictly enforced. The poor were lucky if an officer so much as gave them a kind word.

He quickly grew to have a reputation around the orphanage as a protector to the kids who got bullied. Flynn had never been tolerant of such behavior, especially when the person had done nothing to warrant it, so he would always lend a hand when he could. He learned how to street fight and play unfairly because he was well-aware of the fact that his opponent would never follow any sort of rules. Anybody looking to pick a fight with any kids of the orphanage would steer clear of the area because of Flynn, mostly because some of the kids would come to him for help. He was trustworthy and reliable, even if he was a goody-two-shoes.

While growing up, Flynn met a boy his age named Yuri Lowell. Nobody would've expected the two to become close friends, let alone like each other. They did, though, and became near inseparable. The two made a fantastic team, and they shared a dream of changing the corruption of the law in their area to something just and fair. Their methods were a little...different. Flynn wanted to get into the system and change it from the inside for the long-term. Yuri preferred the Batman approach for the short-term.

Flynn spent a lot of his free time in the library when he was around 13. He absorbed every law book he could get his hands on to better understand how he might change things in his home. It was when he turned 15 that his life started getting odd. Flynn started seeing creatures that most couldn't. He heard them sometimes, too, and would avoid them by losing them in the city. Some instinct told him that fists alone couldn't kill them. Flynn knew his home extremely well, so it honestly wasn't all that hard.

It also helped that he knew the sewage system just as well.

At first, he thought he was going insane. He never spoke about the things only he seemed to perceive. Flynn didn't even tell Yuri, though he might have suspected something was up with his friend. He just didn't want to make his best friend worry when their lives were tough already. Luckily, he was able to survive with his sanity intact for a year, though he wasn't sure he could handle much more of feeling like he couldn't trust the people he considered family to not lock him up in an asylum if he talked about it.

When Flynn was 16, one of the monsters had been hiding a block away from the orphanage, steadily making its way to his home where Flynn's scent was strongest. He'd been able to lure it away and lose it elsewhere in the city, but it was a close call. Too close for his comfort. Upon his return home, a regal-looking woman was waiting for him at the entrance. She said she was called Hera, a Greek goddess, and told Flynn who he really was. The reincarnation of the Norse god Heimdallr, protector of the rainbow road that led to Asgard, and the one who saw and heard much. In his heart and soul, he knew it was true. His mind wasn't so sure about it. In fact, he was pretty sure that Hera was certifiably insane.

Hera then told him that he needed to make his way to a camp in New York City, New York. It was the only place he would be able to find the answers about his past, not to mention the only place in the world that could shield him from the monsters. Flynn outright refused to leave his home and family without his protection. She told him that it would only get more dangerous for his family the longer he stayed. In the end, he reluctantly agreed. He couldn't in good conscience put them at risk no matter how much he loved them.

That night, Flynn packed his most precious belongings, some food, and the money he'd been saving from his various part-time jobs for university. Going to college wouldn't mean much if he died of dehydration and starvation, so he didn't feel too guilty about it. Flynn didn't tell Yuri or anyone else that he was leaving. He did leave his best friend a note, though, asking for him to not look for Flynn. He also asked for forgiveness. Flynn knew very well that it wouldn't have ended well between them if he'd approached Yuri about it, and he was afraid that Yuri would only reinforce the suspicion that Flynn was going insane.

After all of that, he left on a cross-country journey to New York City. His heart held onto the hope that, perhaps, in the future, he would meet at least Yuri again in his life. Even if it meant getting a punch in the face for what he did. He'd kind of deserve it.

Iris Message:

[Honestly, Flynn doesn't look or feel very "godly" at the moment. Let alone like the kind of god Heimdallr is. Was. Whatever. Living off meager supplies while dodging monsters does that to a mortal body. He's very grateful for reaching the safety of the camp right now.]

First, I would like to say thank you for allowing me into your camp. My name is Flynn Scifo, and according to the Queen of the Heavens, I'm Hemdallr's mortal reincarnation.

[He frowns.]

Or however that works. At any rate, I...honestly do not know where I'm staying. I do not wish to burden the Hermes cabin with yet another person, but....

[Flynn looks uncomfortable at this point. He doesn't mind staying with them; it's not much different from the orphanage in that regard. It's just that they're so obviously overcrowded that it doesn't seem fair for him to stay there when someone else might need it more.]

Ah, I also wouldn't say no to someone showing me around. I think it goes without saying that I have never been to a summer camp quite like this.

[He has a wry smile on his tired face as he waits for a response.]

Third Person Log:

Flynn wasn't in the best of shape when he finally got to New York City, New York. It felt like it took him years to get there. Avoiding monsters, sometimes mortal police officers, and once an old woman chased him off for thinking that Flynn was another homeless kid wanting in on her territory. He'd been extremely conscious of his spending, and it was pretty obvious he'd had some days of no food. Going hungry wasn't exactly new for him. Going days without food was definitely a new and humbling experience.

Luckily, his backpack was mostly intact. The damage was mostly superficial, despite looking like it got out of a fight with a pride of hungry lions. Still, he was on the last legs of his money and he was pretty sure that he only had enough to last him for one last meal. That saying Flynn was lucky. After the past month he'd been having, he wasn't about to push his luck.

He looked up the hill he was climbing warily. The camp was right there, he could see it beyond the treeline. Flynn hesitated at the edge, glancing around cautiously. With the way things were going, he'd likely get attacked while making his way there. He wasn't so sure he had the energy to make a mad dash the rest of the way if there was a sudden monster attack.

Flynn rubbed his eyes tiredly. The end was in sight, but he couldn't afford to let his guard down because of it. That would probably kill him, and his soul would pretty much be pissed off at how stupid he'd been if it happened. He took a moment to steel himself, hefted his backpack, took a deep breath, and made his way up to the camp. Please let this not be his last day alive.
